Note that more than one foreclosure documents may be filed against one property reflecting different phases of the foreclosure process. Beginning with the midyear 2007 report RealtyTrac starts to include counts of unique addresses in some stage of foreclosure. For example, in 2007 as a whole, 2,203,295 foreclosure filings correspond to 1,285,873 unique properties. And in 2008, a total of 3,157,806 foreclosure filings correspond to 2,330,483 unique addresses. Unlike filing documents, quarterly property counts cannot be added to get the annual number.
