I think you may try this way:

Firstly, delete your network adapter in Device Manager (Control Panel => System => Hardware => Device Manager). Then logoff or restart your laptop, the system will automatically found the "new" hardware (your network adapter), and install and configure it.

You may need a system CD or driver for network adapter.
