The caliber of shotguns is measured in terms of gauge (U.S.) or bore (U.K.). So, a 10 gauge shotgun nominally should have an inside diameter equal to that of a sphere made from one-tenth of a pound of lead. By far the most common gauges are 12 (0.729 in, 18.5 mm diameter) and 20 (0.614 in, 15.6 mm), although .410 (= 67), 32, 28, 24, 16, and 10 (19.7 mm) gauge and 9 mm (.355 in.) and .22 (5.5 mm) rimfire calibres have also been produced.由上述可知，12 gauge Shotgun（中文叫做 12号口径霰弹枪） 应该是 0.729英寸 或 18.5毫米口径。

除了伊斯特伍德这个变态外，.458 马格南唯一的用处就是用来在非洲打大象犀牛之类的动物。所以用这种子弹的枪支泛滥和偷猎大象有直接的关系。
直接翻12号口径的了

家园 .458 Winchester Magnum是专用猎兽弹 针对大型猛兽，狮，虎，熊类的步枪弹。在大口径猎弹中以便宜，实用著称，所以偷猎者和非洲猛兽狩猎者都喜欢用。原文应该还是proliferation, 指出偷猎者也开始装备专用步枪猎象,以致市面上至少有170支使用.458的猎枪流通.而不是一种专门的猎枪. 还有12号口径霰弹枪用的应该是独头弹,
