The root of US strength is its science and technology. As long as US has the best universities and high tech companies, it's not going to fall any time soon.

On the other hand, as long as China has to import technology and play catch-up, China is in no position to challenge the US. The dominant reason China's manufacturing is flooding the world is low-cost. Once this factor is gone, the US can easily re-locate manufacturing back, because it still has the infrastructure and well educated work force.
