I also recommend this. If your father don't need such a high resolution one, you can also get a A560/A570 which is more a value for money choice.

I am using A560. A570IS is the version with Image Stability.

This Canon series is better as it uses AA batteries. You can use NiMH batteries or in case it is not handy, you can just get an alkaline from the market.

The LCD view finder is just 2.5 inches but it has an optical view finder which is more convenient under bright sunlight.
